Kim Dylla
Kim Dylla (Vulvatron) is a metal singer, costume designer, Computer Scientist and artist born in Princeton, NJ in 1983 to Physicist parents. She now resides both in Charlottesville, Virginia, where she has lived since 2001 when she attended University of Virginia, and in Stockholm, Sweden, with her guitarist husband, Johan Soderberg of Amon Amarth. Dylla took the leap as a full time professional metalhead when she founded her clothing company Kylla Custom Rock Wear in 2012. As a seasoned Metal performer, she brings her metal aesthetic onto the world's biggest stages as she designs and fabricates unique custom stage wardrobes for many internationally touring Metal legends, as well as WWE wrestlers.
Kim has been singing with Metal bands since 2001, most notably as GWAR's Vulvatron. Coming from an Academic background with formal education in Classical vocal techniques, she took the leap from the theater into the Metal world with Virginia band Thismeansyou. Thismeansyou toured nationally, achieved widespread recognition, and spawned Arch Enemy guitarist Nick Cordle. She met Dave Brockie through the metal scene in Richmond, and he recommended that Jamison Land, his then-roommate, and later Beefcake, to audition for Thismeansyou on bass. She wrestled with Richmond Lucha Libre for many years, who performed at GWAR New Years, and with whom Dave Brockie would enter the ring many times! Later Dylla joined the legendary Theatrical Metal band KungFuDykes from Virginia Beach. KungFuDykes played many gigs in the GWAR orbit, including the GWAR-B-Q in 2013. This landed her the gig as GWAR's only female co-lead singer ever, Vulvatron, after the tragic passing of Dave Brockie.
Kim Dylla's first gig as Vulvatron was at Riot Fest in Chicago in 2014, where the character was unveiled as a surprise to fans. Vulvatron and Blothar (Mike Bishop) shared co-lead-vocalist duties that year on the GWAR Eternal tour, with Blothar singing half the songs and Vulvatron singing half the songs, including classics such as "I Hate Love Songs", "Tormentor", and "The Road Behind". She appeared live on the AV Club to sing their mashup of "West End Girls"/"People Who Died". She co-designed and fabricated her costume with Matt Maguire at the Slave Pit, the futuristic theme of the character a nod to her Science background. Dylla states that she was honored to be given an opportunity to pay tribute to her fallen friend, Dave Brockie, through her time as a scumdog.
Following her tenure in GWAR, Dylla joined industrial legends Velvet Acid Christ (Metropolis Records) on vocals and keys for several US and European tours, as well as a headlining set at Wave Gotik Treffen in Germany. She released an album with her Canadian Black Metal band, A Winter Lost (Sun & Moon Records), DC Industrial powerhouses Mindless Faith and Miscellen. She has guested on recordings and live over the years with such Metal heavy hitters as Children of Bodom, Wednesday 13, Corrosion of Conformity Blind, Chrome Waves, Holy Moses, Stahlsarg, Pantera, and Nita Strauss. Currently she sings for theatrical Paranormal Death Metal outfit Ekktoplasm out of Virginia, Atlanta's The Burned Over, Stockholm's Motorlotus, and since 2020 records and performs internationally with Ireland's Cruachan, pioneers of the Folk Metal genre. Her vocals are featured on the band's latest album "The Living and The Dead", and most recently in August 2026 they played Wacken Open Air in Germany."
